当电枢通电时，会在电枢和铁芯之间产生磁场，磁场的方向与电枢通电方向相反。在这种情况下，如果将电枢的一个端口与电刷相连，电流将从电枢流入电刷，然后通过电刷流回电源。当电枢旋转时，电刷也会随之旋转，因此电流的流动方向和电枢的位置有关，这样就能够实现电机的转动。

　　在单项串激电机中，电枢和电刷的绕组都是简单的一圈线圈，因此它的结构相对较简单，可靠性较高，适用于一些低功率、低速度应用场合，如玩具、小型机械设备等。但由于该电机采用串联结构，输出电压会随着电机转速的增加而降低，因此不能用于一些对输出电压有要求的应用场合。同时，单项串激电机也存在功率密度低、效率低等问题。
